So Tell Me, Just Who Exactly Is This Blogger?
My name is Renee Ghert-Zand, and I am a freelance journalist contributing to a variety of online and print newspapers and magazines. My work, mainly covering Israel and the Jewish world, has been published or re-published in/by:
The New York Times
The Globe and Mail
The Jewish Daily Forward
The Jerusalem Post
The Times of Israel
The Jerusalem Report
Jewish Telegraphic Agency
The Jewish Week
The Jewish Exponent
Jewish Women’s Archive
I am a Gen X Yiddishe Mamme who arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area seven years ago by way of Montreal, Toronto, Washington,D.C., Jerusalem and New York. I live with my husband, three sons, and Bear the Mitzvah Dog.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University and an M.A. from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and I have done graduate level study at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. For close to two decades, I worked in Jewish education in day schools, synagogues, museums and central communal agencies.
My fifth grade teacher said I would grow up to be a writer, and an advisor at college predicted that I would go on to teach. Looks like both of them were right.
Oh, and for the requisite personal tidbit…Let me see…Would the disclosure that I am severely lactose intolerant suffice?
Just in case you were wondering, that is not my likeness on my blog’s header. That is Molly Goldberg (aka Gertrude Berg), the quintessential Yiddishe Mamme.
I can be reached by email at firstname.lastname@example.org and look forward to hearing from you.
