So Tell Me, Just Who Exactly Is This Blogger?
My name is Renee Ghert-Zand, and I am a staff writer for The Times of Israel. Prior to joining TOI, I worked as a freelance journalist contributing to a variety of online and print newspapers and magazines. My work mainly covers Israel and the Jewish world. I am a contributing editor at The Jewish Daily Forward and was San Francisco correspondent for The Jerusalem Report. My articles and posts have also been published or reprinted in/by:
I am a Gen X Yiddishe Mamme who recently arrived in Jerusalem by way of of Montreal, Toronto, Washington,D.C., Jerusalem, New York and the San Francisco Bay Area. I live with my husband, three sons, and canine family members, Bear the Mitzvah Dog and Snickers.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service degree from Georgetown University and an M.A. from The Jewish Theological Seminary of America, and I have done graduate level study at The Hebrew University in Jerusalem. I worked in Jewish education in day schools, synagogues, museums and central communal agencies for close to two decades before becoming a journalist.
My fifth grade teacher said I would grow up to be a writer, and an advisor at college predicted that I would go on to teach. Looks like both of them were right.
Oh, and for the requisite personal tidbit…Let me see…Would the disclosure that I am severely lactose intolerant suffice?
Just in case you were wondering, that is not my likeness on my blog’s header. That is Molly Goldberg (aka Gertrude Berg), the quintessential Yiddishe Mamme.
Curious about the name of this blog? Find out why it is called Truth, Praise and Help by reading my first post (Musings of a Gen X Yiddishe Mamme). While it started out as a personal blog, I now use it as a portfolio of my published work.
I can be reached at @YiddisheMamme and look forward to hearing from you.
